Themeda australis – Kangaroo Grass

Tufted grass with a nodding seedhead that provides seed for birds.
It grows in open areas, often on the coast and on mass in understoreys of coastal bushland.
Edible uses: Ground into a flour which is mixed with water to make a damper. The seed is also beneficial for those on a gluten free diet as it is gluten free.
Pests and Diseases: Does not suffer any significant pest problems.
Uses in the garden: Erosion control, embankments, creek banks, large areas of open ground and can be grown in a pot.
Position: Full sun.
Propagation: Can be propagated by seed and division.
Growing Range: Grows in most areas of Australia, particularly in coastal areas.
